Everybody loves vacations, but how about and R&R staycation?
Too often we go in search of foreign destinations, cultures, food, and languages different too our own. Too often we forget what is in our own backyard.
For those who don’t know, a staycation is like a vacation, but you stay at home instead. Looking to recharge? A staycation holiday might be the answer without having to jump a train, plane or automobile when you need to relax an in need for a break.
Like much of Portland that is ever-changing, the transformation of the former Westin Hotel, on Portland’s Park Blocks, is now home to Provenance Hotels’ newest spot, called the Dossier, which opened in 2017. And, it’s an amazing addition to Downtown Portland. The multi-million dollar effort has resulted in a luxury boutique hotel that neatly matches Provenance’s stable.
Located in the heart of downtown, Dossier is the ideal basecamp from which to explore everything that Portland has to offer. The lobby has a distinct Midcentury-meets-Deco vibe that perfectly encapsulates the city’s refined hipster aesthetic.
The 205-room hotel offers 2,000 square feet of meeting space as well as a restaurant and bar.
The Room: The Loft Suites
I was lucky enough to stay in The Penthouse Suites on the Penthouse floor. The room itself is exceptionally spacious, plenty of natural lighting, and a view of Downtown Portland and the Northwest hills.
Each room contains an honor bar with fantastically local Portland snacks and spirits, as well as LATHER bath amenities and packets of Knot Springs’s signature bath scrubs. You might find yourself trying to figure out how to steal the Simmons Beautyrest Black Napa mattresses, or the Italian linen sheets, or the plush bathrobes.
Room Service & Food
Located just off the lobby, Rosa Rosa takes a stand against lousy hotel restaurants by offering fresh, locally sourced food in an elegant black-and-white marble-tiled space with walnut wood accents.
The hotel’s introductory room rates start around $140 a night.
Amenities
The front desk has a couple of bikes to rent out so you can explore this impossibly bike-able city on two wheels. And every day, the hotel invites guests to the lobby for a craft beer and kombucha happy hour. But that is only the beginning of what is offered.
The amenities are what you’d expect from a luxury boutique hotel: A darn good restaurant, a 24 hour fitness center, a Well Fit Kit (if you want to work out hotel room – you literally get a yoga mat, core ball, and barre3 bands), as well as local Portland art hung throughout the hotel rooms.
The hotel has also partnered with a host of local companies and partners to expand their amenity offering, such as: a running group that does group jogs twice per week; exclusive access to Knot Springs, Portland’s health and wellness club; and barware in every single room from Bull in China, a local glassmaker.
It’s also good to mention that the Dossier hotel is pet-friendly. Simply let them know ahead of time and they’ll have a bowl, bed, and toys ready for your pup. Leon was thrilled!
