Let’s talk about gut health. Since first sharing my review on Seed. and if it’s worth the hype, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about it, so I thought I’d take the time to answer the commonly asked questions.
It’s been a few years since I jumped on the Seed train. Spoiler alert: I’m obsessed. (Read my review from when I first tried it here.)
I regularly get pitched probiotics as a part of my job but say no. And today, I’m going to tell you why I’ve stayed loyal to Seed for 3+ years.
Finding a probiotic that works with you can take some trial and error, and they can be pricey and aren’t always worth the money. Because Seed is comprehensive on their website, I’m going to give you the basics.
Everything is on the agenda, from why I take it, how to know if it’s working, and why I love it.
You can also read my honest review here.
But I’ll also guide to specific places where you can get the dirty science details and all the words I’m not great at pronouncing.
It’s a great day to focus on your gut health, so today, I’m going to share one of the keys to mine.
Let’s chat about Seed and the burning questions on your mind!
Why am I obsessed with Seed Probiotic?
Aside from the obvious that it works, I love that Seed is a monthly subscription and is a daily synbiotic (your probiotic + prebiotic). They offer both a female daily synbiotic and a male daily synbiotic.
How much does Seed Probiotic subscription cost?
A Seed subscription costs $49.99 a month with free shipping included. However, you can cancel or skip at any time. I recently noticed I had built up a small stockpile with early holiday shipments, which came in handy for my 3-month workcation to Spain. Because of that, I wanted to delay my next shipment until I get back. Since Seed does ship internationally, I want to put that to the test and report back 😉 Delaying my shipment is super easy; go online and request a new delivery date. I could do it all from my account without waiting for an email reply or making a phone call.
Who is Seed Probiotic for?
If you’re struggling with your digestion, or bloating, or want a bit of extra gut support, Seed is a great option. For females, it can increase folate production, support your metabolism, decrease bloat and improve your skin. I know it’s helped me a lot. So much of our body functions are driven by what we eat and how our gut processes things. Seed is a scientifically tested synbiotic aiming to support your gut microbiome in as many ways as possible.
Where can I buy Seed Probiotic?
Seed is only available online and through the Seed website, and they do ship internationally. However, I’d recommend checking their website as they are constantly expanding to see if they cover your region.
What makes Seed Probiotic different?
You can often find many probiotics on the shelves in grocery & health food stores. But not nearly as many that feature both pre & probiotics. Seed aims to support the body’s microbiome. Your body is constantly interacting with different bacteria, and Seed helps to keep a healthy interaction.
Seed is also supported by years of research and clinical testing, including double-blind studies. Seed has made it a point to test even beyond what is required as a business. They’ve also made sustainability a priority while developing their goods. The first jar and travel bottle you get are ideal for keeping your synbiotic fresh. You can compost your refill packet and the packaging that protects your jars. Also, the original box can be recycled. Instead of throwing away plastic bottles monthly, everything can be reused in the best way possible.
Is Seed Probiotic gluten-free?
Yes. According to the Seed website, “The Daily Synbiotic is free from Dairy • Gluten • Soy • GMOs • Binders • Preservatives • 11 other classes of allergens defined by the European Food and Safety Authority (EFSA).”
Is Seed Probiotic Vegan?
Yes.
Do you have to keep Seed Probiotic in the fridge?
Nope. I keep mine by my bedside to take at night.
Do I really need to take a Probiotic?
Ultimately, the decision on whether you need to take a daily probiotic will be up to you and your doctor. If you’re suffering from digestion issues, inflammation, or even acne, you might benefit from a probiotic. There have also been links to the relationship between our gut health and mental health. In the case of Seed, you’re getting both the good gut bacteria and the bacteria needed to help it thrive.
Why is a Synbiotic (Pre & Probiotic) better than just a Probiotic?
For our guts to function at optimal capacity, we need both. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria, and prebiotics are food for these bacteria.
“The gut bacteria, collectively referred to as the gut flora, or gut microbiota, perform many important functions in the body.
Eating balanced amounts of both probiotics and prebiotics can help ensure that you have the right balance of these bacteria to keep your gut microbiota healthy.” (Healthline)
Think of your probiotic as PacMan and your prebiotic as the little white dots she eats, and Prebiotics helps the healthy bacteria introduced via your probiotic thrive.
Will Seed Probiotic Make me poop?
In short, yes! Probiotics can, in fact, make you poop—especially if you’re suffering from constipation caused by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It’s important to understand that probiotics are not laxatives. Their purpose is not to stimulate your bowels. Taking probiotics may change the consistency of your poop and some people report having to poop more often while they adjust to taking a probiotic.
How long does it take for seed probiotic to work?
You may feel its effects on your digestive system within 48 hours, though long-term improvements to the cardiovascular system take more time and might not be noticeable to you. Seed probiotics don’t need to require refrigeration.
Why take Seed or any probiotic at night?
Research suggests that the ideal time to take probiotics is right before bed because the gut is inactive at night. If you think about it, you don’t usually wake up in the middle of the night to poop.
Taking your probiotics when your stomach acid levels are lower (i.e., its concentration, not the pH) can help ensure that more healthy bacteria survive and colonize the gut, where they can support your gut health and immune system.
Research seems to support these recommendations as well, with one study finding that probiotics given 30 minutes before a meal or at the beginning of a meal were much more likely to survive than probiotics given 30 minutes after a meal when digestion is in full swing.
My Final Thought
I’ve honestly tried a ton of probiotics over the years. But once I found Seed, I haven’t looked back. It’s been a game-changer in balancing my gut and helping to clear up my skin. It can take some time to figure out when it fits best in your routine. So don’t be afraid to play around with it. I love that I can keep it at room temp which means I don’t forget to take it. It sits right next to my alarm clock as part of my nightly routine. And it’s the one product I recommend to all my friends.
