As a child, Pixy Stix were my obsession – those tiny, vivid straws filled with nothing but pure, colorful sugar. They were a sugary dream, and just thinking about them sends me into a nostalgic sugar rush.
Then came Blue Majik, a supplement that bears an uncanny resemblance to the blue Pixy Stix of my childhood, down to turning everything it touches a playful shade of blue. At first glance, I thought it was a modern twist on my favorite childhood candy, something I was eager to try for a trip down memory lane.
But here’s the twist: Blue Majik is far from a whimsical treat. It’s a health-promoting powerhouse, earning its stripes as a superfood with immune-boosting properties. It’s gained such popularity that it’s even found its way into mainstream health offerings, like Blue Magic Smoothies and cashew milks.
For those new to Blue Majik, let’s explore this visually stunning and health-boosting ingredient that’s more than meets the eye.
What Exactly is Blue Majik Milk?
Derived from Spirulina, Blue Majik is a proprietary extract of the blue-green algae Arthrospira platensis. This superfood ingredient stands out in the health food realm.
Blue Majik powder boasts a high ranking on the superfoods list. Similar to green spirulina, it is celebrated for its nutrient density. Rich in essential nutrients like B12, iron, calcium, enzymes, minerals, and antioxidants, Blue Majik is a nutritional powerhouse.
The vibrant blue color comes from C-phycocyanin, a protein abundant in amino acids. Not only does it give Blue Majik its distinctive color, but C-phycocyanin is also valued for its antioxidant properties and potential anti-inflammatory benefits. Research indicates that it may even support brain health.

What Sets Blue Majik Apart from Spirulina?
Blue Majik is a specialized extract derived from the pigment phycocyanin in spirulina. While Blue Majik focuses on this specific component, the more commonly known spirulina powder is produced from the entire algae plant.
Nutritionally, spirulina is a protein-rich superfood that’s surprisingly low in calories. Here’s a detailed breakdown of its nutrients per two-tablespoon serving. On the other hand, Blue Majik, being an extract of spirulina, tends to have lower calories and sodium but doesn’t boast the same protein levels as whole spirulina.
When you choose powdered spirulina, you’re also getting 24 percent of your daily recommended iron intake (surpassing even spinach!), 12 percent of the recommended potassium, nearly 10 percent of magnesium, along with a modest amount of calcium per two tablespoons. Spirulina further includes vital B vitamins and is abundant in chlorophyll, known for its immune-boosting properties.
Taste and Use
As an algae, its natural taste might not be appealing to everyone. However, when blended into smoothies or nut milks, its flavor is easily masked, making it a versatile addition to various recipes.
Personal Experience and Recipe
I’ve particularly enjoyed incorporating Blue Majik into homemade almond milk. The recipe, which I’ll share, is both delicious and visually stunning – a perfect combination of health and taste.
1 cup raw almonds, soaked overnight
7 cups water, filtered
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cardamom
1 tsp vanilla bean
1 scoop Blue Majik (I used this brand)
4 pitted Medjool dates or stevia, to taste
